SUPERFRIENDS SKETCH CARDS

Yesterday, I had posted the BATMAN sketch card from this SUPERFRIENDS set. Here's BATMAN included with the rest of the SUPERFRIENDS...AQUAMAN, SUPERMAN, WONDER WOMAN, ROBIN, and those junior Superfriends, MARVIN, WENDY and WONDERDOG! This sketch card set is based on the original 1973 SUPERFRIENDS character designs by ALEX TOTH. Each sketch card measures 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" and is markers, brush & ink on 80 lb. Strathmore textured card stock. To own this SUPERFRIENDS sketch card set, e-mail me at powsley@flash.net.

42 YEARS AGO TODAY - SEPTEMBER 10, 1966

It was a Saturday, and millions of kids tuned in to CBS that morning to see this sensational line-up of brand new color cartoons! Inspired by the smash-hit BATMAN TV show, the new line-up was called SUPER HEROES SATURDAYS ON CBS. There was SPACE GHOST and DINO BOY, FRANKENSTEIN JR. and THE IMPOSSIBLES, SUPERMAN with SUPERBOY & KRYPTO and THE LONE RANGER. I hope we see official DVD releases of Hanna-Barbera's FRANKENSTEIN JR. and THE IMPOSSIBLES and Filmation's SUPERBOY. I scanned the above image from the terrific book, HAL LIFSON's 1966. BIG FRANKIE

Recently, I picked up a few 1960s issues of SUPERMAN from eBay. This is the back cover of issue #175 (Februaury 1965)...a very cool ad for the Aurora BIG FRANKIE plastic model kit! My brother, Stephen, had this model kit when we were kids and I remember it well! Seeing this ad brought back a lot of fun memories. Click on the ad for a larger view!

SUPERMAN IS 70 THIS MONTH!

Before the month of June ends, I wanted to to wish SUPERMAN a happy 70th birthday! SUPERMAN first appeared in ACTION COMICS #1 in June of 1938. Here's the cover to a 1960s SUPERMAN Color by Number book by Whitman and the original painted art for a 1960s SUPERMAN puzzle from Western Printing. Click on each image for a larger view!
