Britons are the worst energy wasters in Europe with bad habits which could cost £11bn by 2010, a survey of Europe's five most populous nations suggests.
I often leave things on standby, simply because they need resetting every time they are unplugged. It seems to me that electrical goods are very badly designed. If the DVD recorder, and the set top box could remember all it's settings and channels without electricity - then people would be more inclined to switch them off. The TV doesn't have a problem remembering, so why can't the digibox remember a thing? I don't want to have to spend 10 minutes coaxing the thing into something useful, when I'm missing my favourite programme.
