FRANKENSTEIN JR. 12" BANK from FUNKO!

Yesterday, Brian Mariotti sent me this image of Hanna-Barbera's FRANKENSTEIN JR.. Brian is the President of the great toy company, Funko. Funko has produced a lot of great bobble heads and vinyl figures over the last few years of some of our favorite cartoon pals. This is the design for the new 12" FRANKENSTEIN JR. coin bank. Brian tells me that the bank features moveable arms and FRANKIE's head is removed to retreive coins. I'm not sure when the 12" FRANKENSTEIN JR. coin bank will be available. Brian says the bank is "still in the works." I really hope to create the FRANKENSTEIN JR. character art for the bank's packaging. It's great to see this character being merchandised! Looks like another sensational Hanna-Barbera product from Brian Mariotti and Funko! Click on the image for a larger view.

A Simple Apology (site review)

I found this interesting cartoon blog with Stumble Upon (how else). It's drawn by Mark Gleim. I love the way it's been drawn and the way the humour somehow manages to be silly and true to life at the same time. It does have what some would consider bad language, but I don't think it's at all out of place in the realms of the topics dealt with, or detracts in anyway from the humour. and make up your own mind, or just visit it and have faith in my judgement that this is one of the best loosely drawn web comics drawn by someone called Mark, out there. Oh and unlike this shambles of a cartoon blog, this one is updated every Tuesday (mostly). I'm wondering why Tuesdays are such a good day to update, but in my experience it's on this day of the week that I get the most hits. I guess Monday's there's too much work to be done to slack off and surf the web?

PRECIOUS PUPP - HANNA-BARBERA TV FRIEND!

I was just watching a compilation VHS tape of Hanna-Barbera's PRECIOUS PUPP cartoons. Along with THE HILLBILLY BEARS, PRECIOUS PUPP was one of the segments shown during THE ATOM ANT SHOW in 1965. Hanna-Barbera was still producing great cartoons at this time, such as SECRET SQUIRREL, WINSOME WITCH and SQUIDDLY DIDDLY. I'll do future postings featuring those characters soon. I especially love the character designs seen in these shows. The top image here is a color sketch of PRECIOUS PUPP that I did this morning. The middle image, featuring GRANNY SWEET and PRECIOUS PUPP, is scanned from a book of Hanna-Barbera model sheets. The bottom image is a scan of the first panel from the PRECIOUS PUPP story that appears in the 1965 Gold Key ATOM ANT comic book. Click on each image for a larger view! Northern Rock Cartoon

If I'd not been on a sabbatical over the new year then this is the cartoon I would have drawn. Not exactly cutting edge topical right now, although it's still on going. I just can't believe this on hasn't been done before. As always with these things, drawing this has also given me a much better idea for a Northern Rock cartoon. You'll have to wait a while to see that one. Next cartoon might be about digging holes, but it definitely won't be about fridges. The fridge thing was a little over done.
