PATRICK OWSLEY ORIGINAL ART SALE ON EBAY!

I was cleaning out my files of original cartoon art and came across many pieces that I thought I'd offer on Ebay. Click here to see my original art auctions. Most of my auctions are for cartoon art that I've done for public domain DVD releases. There's a wide range of classic character art from POPEYE to art for a HALLOWEEN CARTOON COLLECTION. I've priced all of the art to sell and I am not charging any shipping costs. Shipping will be combined on all auctions won. It's FREE shipping no matter how many pieces you win. Fixing CBL: "Voodoo Hoodoo"

This series of posts will try to fix the "errors" intentionally made with the Carl Barks Library.

Thank to a dear friend, the extraordinary Klaus Harms, I'm able to post scans of the original version of "Voodoo Hoodoo".
The only way to read the story as Barks made it is to actually own the original comicbook, considering that, after its original release, this Donald Duck adventure was reprinted in a less unPC way.
Even the Carl Barks Library features the new version: the most evident changes are the natives' face and the fact that the ring in Bombie's nose is removed. Even the dialogue is different. You'll be the judges!
And yes, Bop-Bop was originally intended to be a black man!
Enjoy the original version. I'm posting the first 16 pages and the rest will be available tomorrow.
Let me know your thoughts!

See ya tomorrow for the remaining 16 pages!

Stay tooned,
Duck Dodgers

Unproductive Day ONE

Well, I've not drawn any cartoons at all today. So there's nothing for me to tell you about and then not publish it on here anyway.
.
Still haven't heard back from the National Publication that I sent two cartoons to yesterday. One of the cartoons was very topical, but then the news changed overnight, so it might be pushed aside because of this. We shall see.
The good news is that I might be free to publish it on here soon - but then it's no longer topical, so you'll probably hate it anyway.
.
I've spent most the day looking at buying a printer. Too many choices you see. That, and the fact that I hate spending money - so I'm looking for something which will be cheap to run. Funny how many printers are cheaper than the ink that's inside them! If only cars were cheaper than a tank full of petrol, eh?
.
I'm weighing up my options at the moment. Seriously looking at buying the HP Laserjet 1018 (pictured), as it's cheap, it's a laser printer, and I don't need to print in colour. The reason I need a printer is to be able to send off cartoons to more publications. Surprisingly in this technological world we live I've only found 1 publication that accepts unsolicited cartoons via email. So I'm very sorry for the planet, but I need to do a lot of printing.
.
My only concern with this printer is, does it print cartoon drawings well enough to send off. None of the dozen or so reviews I've read mention how well it prints line drawings (although some mention it's not so great with graphics), so it look like I'm going to have to take a chance with this. Hopefully if it's entirely useless, I'll be able to return it. Hopefully it'll be exactly what I need.

My Favourite Small Time Blogs

I've been looking at the list on Blog Top List, mainly to see how my blog is performing, but also to view the competition I'm up against (well, at least as far as BTL is concerned).
.
I'm languishing at number 88 in the Humour section at the moment, disappointing as I was briefly at the number 1 position last year. Votes count for 50% of the positioning, so if you like this blog please consider voting.
.
Here's a small selection of Blogs I've found, which also rank quite low on the list (compiled from visitor numbers AND votes) which I feel deserve a better placing on the list. Visit the blogs, and vote for them if you agree with me.

Expensive Expert Advice...

PCWORLD cartoon.

Well what do you know. After making a big song and dance about the likely lack of gag cartoons, here's one anyway.
The reason I've posted this, is that I can't see it being very publishable. Most Newspapers/Magazines wouldn't want to upset a company who might be a current or future advertiser.

Having had a (what I consider) a gentle pop at the 'experts' of PCWORLD, I'll be off there tomorrow to buy a new printer. They're OK as long as:
  1. You don't ask for advice.
  2. You are in a hurry, and can't wait to buy it cheaper online.
  3. They have a special offer on.

Well here we go.

So here's the first post, after the last one which announced the lack of gag cartoons on here. So there's no cartoon here.

I'm going to tell you about the two cartoons I've just drawn, and where I've sent them. One is about Prison officers. The other is about ball scratching. Fascinating stuff eh?

I've sent them both to possibly the only Magazine in the UK that accepts email submissions. It's all too easy. So they are going to get most of my cartoons, as they come of the production line, so to speak.

I will keep you all posted on what response I may get.

There is another idea in the pot - which I think is probably unpublishable, so maybe I'll draw that now, before my tea.

The sun is still shining.

No more Gag Cartoons (maybe)

I've been thinking of where this Blog is heading, and after discussion with some people who know far more about cartoons then I do - I have decided to wind down Clangnuts Cartoon Blog, into something which is less about every single cartoon that I draw, and more about sharing with you, the readers about my cartooning life.

...
That's not to say that Clangnuts Cartoon Blog will disappear from the web. I appreciate all the visitors who have shown support for my work, and encouraged me to keep updating. The problem I have is that I cannot publish unsold cartoons on here, and at the same time offer them to editors on a first rights basis. As they have already appeared on here, I am limiting the potential to sell them elsewhere. As I need to develop an income from my cartoons, I have to take this hard decision and limit what I post on here.

...
Once something has already sold, or done the rounds and not sold at all - then I'll be free to publish them on here. So hopefully after a few months, I'll still have a collection of gag cartoons which I can then show you all on here.
...
I will keep you all posted on where I'm getting with the cartoons I'm drawing.

...
My other idea is to develop something exclusively just for this blog. I'm thinking of a weekly strip cartoon - which wouldn't need to be submitted unsolicited to cartoon editors anyway - so I'd be very interested in any ideas, or thoughts you may have. Please leave comments, and let me know what you think.
...
I'm also think of building a fairly static website, to accompany this blog, and to act as an online portfolio for my work. The domain name, www.clangnuts.com may be used for this, with a link to this blog.

...
Believe me, this isn't an easy decision for me to make. I'd love to show you the latest cartoons, but you're just going to have to wait. Sorry.

THE STONE AGE GANG - 1965 HANNA-BARBERA PRESENTATION ART

It's been just over a week since my last posting. I've been really busy working on a music-related project that I can't discuss or post any art from yet. I will do that later.
Here's a piece of 1965 presentation art for the HANNA-BARBERA production, THE STONE AGE GANG. The show never did go into production, but it looks like the concept did evolve into the HANNA-BARBERA Gold Key comic book series, THE CAVE KIDS. Click on the image for a larger view! Dying under the Dryer.

Hairdresser Cartoon.

Why we love Famous Cartoons

I was recently asked why I'm so fond of Famous and Paramount cartoons. In my opinion, from the earliest days of the Studio, in 1943, to 1952 or so, Famous produced some of the funniest cartoons ever. Then they started to make more formulaic but still enjoable shorts.
One of the reasons that I always use to justify my love for these Studio's cartoons is the presence of extreme violence and mayhem in them. I was answered that almost all cartoons of the 40s/50s got violent gags.
Yes, that is true, but nothing on pair with what you can see in a Famous cartoon, with the exception of sacharinous Casper (what do you know? some shots in this post actually do come from Casper cartoons), Little Audrey and Screen Songs/Kartunes.
But the rest of Famous/Paramount productions, expecially the ones with Baby Huey or Herman and Katnip and Buzzy, are a festival of violence!
Mmm...donuts and your truly Duck Dodgers shared their forces and selected for your pure enjoyment some of their favorite Famous/Paramount violent moments.
I KNOW you'll be delighted and amazed!

Best,
